Day-by-Day Itinerary

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) where you’ll be welcomed by IntelSafari. Transfer to Moshi for a relaxing stay and trek briefing with your guide. Equipment checks and rental gear provided if needed.

Journey Time: ~1 hour / 40 km
Accommodation: Chanya Lodge or similar

After breakfast, transfer to Londorosi Gate (2,100 m) to complete registration. Begin your trek through a beautiful rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and exotic flora. Overnight at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m).

Distance: 7 km / 4 miles
Elevation Gain: +550 m
Hiking Time: ~4 hours
Accommodation: Mti Mkubwa Camp (Tented)

Climb steadily through moorland with breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo Peak. Watch the landscape change dramatically as you reach Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m).

Distance: ~8 km / 5 miles
Elevation Gain: +960 m
Hiking Time: ~4.5–5 hours
Accommodation: Shira 1 Camp (Tented)

Enjoy a scenic hike to Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m) with the option to summit Cathedral Peak (3,872 m). Fantastic acclimatization and panoramic views await.

Hiking Time: ~3.5–4 hours
Accommodation: Shira 2 Camp (Tented)

Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600 m) — a key acclimatization point. After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp (3,900 m) below the imposing Barranco Wall.

Distance: ~10 km / 6 miles
Elevation Gain/Loss: +750 m, then descend to 3,900 m
Hiking Time: ~6.5–7 hours
Accommodation: Barranco Camp (Tented)

Climb the iconic Barranco Wall with sweeping views. Continue through rolling alpine desert to Karanga Camp (3,995 m) — one of the route’s most scenic campsites.

Distance: ~5 km
Elevation Gain: +95 m
Hiking Time: ~3.5–4 hours
Accommodation: Karanga Camp (Tented)

Ascend gradually through rocky terrain toward Barafu Camp (4,673 m) — your launchpad for the summit. Rest in the afternoon and prepare for your midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.

Elevation Gain: +678 m
Hiking Time: ~3.5–4 hours
Accommodation: Barafu Camp (Tented)

Depart at midnight for your summit attempt. Climb to Stella Point (5,756 m) and onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) in time for sunrise. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Barafu, then on to Mweka Camp (3,100 m).

Distance: ~17 km / 10 miles
Elevation Gain: +1,222 m to summit, -2,795 m descent
Hiking Time: ~11–14 hours
Accommodation: Mweka Camp (Tented)

After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). Receive your summit certificate and transfer to Moshi for rest and celebration.

Distance: ~10 km / 6 miles
Elevation Loss: -1,460 m
Hiking Time: ~3 hours
Accommodation: Chanya Lodge or similar

After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport or continue on an IntelSafari safari adventure if booked.
