In Uganda’s southwestern corner, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is located in a small but spectacular reserve set against the dramatic backdrop of Virunga Volcanoes. The park’s three towering extinct volcanoes—Mount Gahinga, Mount Muhabura, and Mount Sabyinyo—rise between 7,000 and 13,000 feet, creating jaw-dropping views and excellent trekking opportunities.

Though gorilla trekking is available, Mgahinga has fewer habituated gorilla families than Bwindi, and they frequently move between Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC, making sightings less predictable. However, it is the only place in Uganda to trek golden monkeys, offering a rare and rewarding wildlife experience.
